Nevada solar plant built in less than a year

solar deployment

A large scale Nevada solar plant built has been built from start to finish in less than a year.  Meeting their production goals, Sempra Energy has finished construction on a 48 megawatt generator in Nevada.  This represents an aggressive pace of construction and sets the bar for solar deployments.   The Copper Mountain Solar facility was constructed in less than a year, demonstrating the ability to rapidly deploy large scale solar projects.  This solar deployment produces enough energy to keep the lights going in fourteen thousand houses. The facility is in Boulder City and generates clean beautiful solar power.

The site has three quarters of a million thin-film solar panels which are used to harness the sun to build electricity. The facility is being sold to California utility company Pacific Gas and Electric. Taking advantage of California's progressive requirements to maintain a 20% alternative energy supply with a third of the energy required to be produced by alternative power sources by 2020.

The copper mountain solar plant is the latest in an ambitious growth plan by Sempra Generation, a subsidiary of the main company which handles power plant development. The company is aiming for a full gigawatt of power production throughout the southwest region, including development in the deserts of Nevada, California and Arizon

high capacity solar

The producer of the solar panels and primary contractor for the projects is a company known as First Solar. First Solar is a leader in thin film photovoltaic modules, and has been able to produce 2 gigawatts of solar cell production in its high capacity production lines. Advanced cadmium telluride (CdTe) semiconducters are the primary component of their pv cells. First Solar claims that the cadmium telluride cells have the best carbon footprint of any currently manufactured pv cell core. A study by the environmentally conscious French Ministry concluded that there were negligible hazards involved in manufacturing and producing cadmium telluride solar panels in terms of emissions and waste disposal hazards.

future projects

California energy

The next major future projects for Sempra Generation are a 200 megawatt project in California as well as a 600 megawatt facility slated to begin construction in Arizona. Sempra also has a stake in conventional gas powered plants, solar and wind power operations in the United States. They currently have a consumer base of 25,000,000 people.

approval granted

Approval for the Antelope Valley project in California was granted last month, known as Rosamond Solar which is expected to supply the energy needs of 74,000 households in California.

This is an ambitious company that has joined the ranks of the fortune 500 energy companies. We expect to see more great things as they continue to deploy large scale solar projects throughout the world.
